To be fair to Michelin, even though the tyre has the word sport in its name, they never claim to be a tyre which should be used on track, they have the 4S line for that, but I am a little disappointed there isn't a little more sport from the pilot SPORT 5. We put the best gravel bike tyres head-to-head in 2022, with top-rated options from Continental, Schwalbe, WTB, Pirelli, Teravail, Vittoria and more They really feel perfectly suited for anytime, anywhere backroad punting, such is the confidence-inspiring purchase they drill into the road surface in any direction. One tyre that definitely deserves sport in its name is the Yokohama Advan Sport V105, as it finished an impressive third and was one of the best in terms of steering and sportyness. Worst on test: ruined by a terrible safety rating, poor brakes and unresponsive handling. Tyre test 2022: results by category In-depth look at the scoring charts for our 2022 tyre test. Theres enough lateral adhesion that it takes some foolhardy input to force either end of the i30 N to cry freedom. The inner portion of the tread (around 40 per cent) features large grooves and a high void ratio to do the heavy lifting during wet running. The Michelin Alpin 6 was next, less than 3% off the best, again lovely to drive, just picked up a little more understeer than most hurting the lap time, perhaps it'll do better in traction and braking. Like, not even "fun to drive sideways" as the grip was so low, and so difficult to recover when sliding, it was just frustrating. The steering wasn't quite as quick as the bridgestone, but it was the most liniar of the group in terms of steering force build up. Great job Vredestein. Given this is the only tyre which would offer any sort of grip in snow, it's a fairly impressive result. It is recognised by the Fdration Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of international motorsport, as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing Nankang placed FOURTH! The slowest tyre in the wet was once again the Rotalla. Oh, and it liked to understeer. I thought I'd like this as I was warming up on the way to track as the steering felt good, however the grip was really peaky, it didn't like sliding on either axle, and was just a bit of a handful to drive. My notes say "sporty and spongy" which are two opposing qualities. They did feel better as they started to warm up, but not enough to jump places. The dry handling circuit is relatively short and fast, and with it's long sweeping corners it is an awesome test of the tyres lateral grip, and allows you to really feel how the car and tyre package is balanced at the limit. Were encouraged to attack it as hard as we like, with a timed shootout after a number of practice runs. The Semperit might have struggled in the dry but it was EXCELLENT in the wet, with almost no aquaplaning in a straight line or while turning, and great grip. Curt has been on and off the Are Media merry-go-round since the 90s, inflicting superlatives across a vast array of its motoring and mens titles for more than two decades. The Nankang also had the joint highest subjective comfort score, tying with Vredestein and Toyo. The outer side of the tread face (around 60 per cent) features broader, more rigid blocks that cope better with heat build-up and are better suited for dry, promoting dynamic consistency and improved wear characteristics. The Vredestein Quatrac Pro and Falken AS210 were next around 9 seconds from the lead. But it was still 3.3 seconds or 3% from the best tyre, which was the Michelin CrossClimate 2. The tyre still was one of the best, but the reason I'm talking about this separately is that the Michelin CrossClimate was a game changer when launched, it was a summer tyre with some winter capabilities and it really felt like that in the dry. Interestingly, the existing Pilot Sport 4S, a harder-core more track-savvy evolution of the PS4, remains on the market, if in selective 19-to-22-inch sizes. The PremiumContact 6 might be getting on in its years, but it's still totally fabulous as a dry handling tyre! As in previous tests, it was a tyre you had to hustle around the track, it felt meaty, it made you work, but ultimately it rewarded you with a good lap time. Microsoft pleaded for its deal on the day of the Phase 2 decision last month, but now the gloves are well and truly off. In addition, performance isnt a simple concept. Which makes the amount of grip that the PS5s do ply in such conditions quite remarkable. They were both easy to drive at the limit as the limit was all front end so no surprises, you just had to be really patient with the turning and throttle. And virtually all of it is submerged in water. Both these tyres were only two percent off the leaders, but their ultimate grip levels couldn't match the best. The other notiable inclusion in this test was the ultra low rolling resistance Continental EcoContact 6. The Yokohama had less issues with lateral aquaplaning so was easier to drive as long as all four tyres were the same temperature, but it did seem to like a bit of warmth more than the rest of the tyres meaning for the second lap, where the fronts were warmer than the rears, there was some oversteer. Kumho and Vredestein are the next two tyres. Critical measures for a road tyre, even a hi-po so-called summer tyre, include dry and wet lateral grip, dry and wet braking, the treads associated water evacuation properties, comfort, noise, rolling resistance and, importantly for petrolhead consumption, how much dynamic precision they offer the driver. A little ahead was the Federal and Nankang. It seems impossible to keep the Michelin Primacy 4 away from the podium of a test, with the French tyre finishing third overall with low wear and a very low rolling resistance as its standout qualities, but thanks to its high purchase price, its calculated value was 20% lower than the Goodyears. It was literally a league of one, and was as far ahead at the front as the Bridgestone was at the rear in terms of grip and driveability. What will be a surprise is if this tyre also does well in the wet. The front end had great, nicely weighted steering, the car turned in quickly, but the rear tyre just couldn't hook up, and I found myself oversteering mid corner. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 is new to market, but so is its main rival, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6! In terms of feedback and connection, the PS5s are a class act. Fast if you can manage it, but a tiny bit less friendly than the Conti and Goodyear. A cold and wet snap has left The Bend Motorsport Parks wonderful 7.8-kilometre circuit in a state not ideal for assessing the outright dry-running capabilities of the PS5, but the slightly damp and chilly conditions offer quite a clear snapshot of the newcomers real-world, all-rounder chops. Hankook was almost as lovely to drive, and the hankook had a MIGHTY first lap pace, fastest of all, but it did also have the most drop off in time across the four laps we do to get the average, which meant its average was a little behind the fastest tyre overall, the Vredestein Quatrac Pro. Only two tyres were in the 94 second range, and that was the Semperit and the budget Rotalla. Curved aquaplaning had a similar overall result to straight aquaplaning. Here, the PS5s are perhaps more impressive than in the slalom, responding with rapid deacceleration and no secondary tyre-skipping chatter, stopping in damp as if the surface was dry. This will be no surprise if you've been following winter tyre testing last year, the Krisalp HP3 is constantly one of the best, if not the best in the snow in all tests, so when I found out it was the Kleber here (I was testing blind) I wasn't overly surprised. It doesn't wear out either, we've used it for the drifty filming laps and it held up really well. There were varying results for the two aquaplaning tests. Whatever that outcome, it is pretty clear from a cursory taste test that Michelin has a damn fine mainstream high-performance tyre on its hands. The Goodyear is just at home on the dry track. WebWe lab test each of our products, both in house and through a third-party lab, to ensure we keep this low level of Delta 9 THC. For the 2022 ADAC tyre test, the German publication have tested a crossover SUV size of 215/60 R16 (this test) and a smaller 185/65 R15 tyre size which can be read here.. It was kind of like driving a big soft warm bath, which might not be the best analogy, but it's how I felt driving the car. * *For new OnePass subscribers only who activate their account to Target. To find out Tyre Reviews has ten of the most popular all season tyres on the market, and will be testing them in the snow, dry and wet, noise, comfort and rolling resistance! What I'm not ok with was the communication at the limit. Michelin and Goodyear were close in third and fourth. The results are certainly not surprising if you follow tyre testing, with Continental and Michelin tying for first place overall, and Bridgestone placing third. To find out which of these new ultra high performance tyres are best, I use a VW Golf GTI wearing 225/45 R17 tyres and test the dry, wet, comfort, noise and rolling resistance of nine sets of performance The Goodyear had the lowest passby noise of the group, with the Rotalla and Giti also performing very well. I'm a little surprised at the Bridgestone being the noisiest of the group given its category, but we tested noise at two speeds (50 and 80 km/h) and it was the noisiest both times. I did get time to run some comfort testing, not a full program but a reasonable cut down program using some rough roads and impact bars, and as usual there was a loose correlation between handling and comfort. The initial run is at a circumspect pace, the cold PS5s returning enough grip and front-end accuracy to encourage us to dial up considerably more velocity next go through. This DID mean the Supra had quite an understeer balance, which is usually considered safe, but I guess it's only safe if the car actually turns. The new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 had an impressive straight aquaplaning performance, leading the pack where the new Asymmetric 6 struggled. In last place, a full 15 seconds behind the best was the Bridgestone WeatherControl A005 evo. The tyre had reasonable levels of grip, but it gave you the lowest amount of communication from the front axle meaning you didn't really know when it was sliding or not, and it had the most understeer of any tyre. The Bridgestone and Pirelli had the joint lowest rolling resistance, with the Falken and Vredestein having the highest. The Goodride budget tyre had the lowest rolling resistance, narrowly beating the Michelin and Nankang. The Hankook was consistently very good on the brakes, where the Bridgestone seemed to struggle even more, especially when trying to brake and turn. I was shocked to see the Bridgestone WeatherControl A005 Evo in sixth, as wet handling is usually one of Bridgestones strengths. Sadly, as usual there's no actual data provided behind the scores, but ADAC have graded and commented on all the tyres in detail which you can read below. While the times were very close, the delivery was quite different! Both tyres immediately felt soft coming out of the garage, the steering was lighter, you needed more steering angle to get the car turned, and you could feel the car moving around on the sidewalls of the tyres just coming off the ramps. The AllSeasonContact felt surprisingly sporty for an all season tyre, and I really enjoyed driving it. The Vredestein was next. The new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 was fourth, but we are only 1.28 seconds away from the fastest tyre now. The tyre did have a bit of oversteer in it, which is perhaps not the most ideal in the real world but it was controllable which really helped the time. 2022 Tyre Reviews 17 Inch Summer Tyre Test; 2022 Tyre Reviews UUHP Summer Tyre Test; 2021 Tyre Reviews SUV Tyre Test; 2021 Tyre The Continental put up a good fight, and rewarded a little more of a smoother driving style, but it couldn't knock bridgestone from it's almost guaranteed number one spot in wet handling. Value is calculated by dividing the purchase price of the tyres by the projected mileage then giving a Euros per 1000km figure. The response is, there are no compromises. Not much sustained punishment was involved so its unsurprising that, back in the pitlane, the tyres have barely any warmth to the touch, due mostly to the low-ambient and damp track temperatures. I'm going to start with dry, as let's face it, that's what everyone is here for! Even though it wasn't the cheapest tyre, when AutoBild divided the purchase price by the projected mileage it also proved to be the best value tyre on test, a very impressive showing from Goodyear. Sixth was the Tomket Allyear 3, 5% or 5.8 seconds off the best. It felt great on the brakes so let's see how it does in braking. Used the ps4 upto now good tyre lasting well. This tyre never places too highly in the snow, but usually places well in the dry and wet. The AllSeasonContact is ranked 8th of 47 All Season Premium Touring tyres.. Reports. The Semperit is picking up where the uniroyal rainsport left off, both are sister brands run by Continental, and it had that familiar soft steering and good wet grip the rainsport always has. Honestly, I'm not sure that this is the best quality for a road tyre, but I enjoyed it, and it delivered the grip, doubly impressive when you consider how little tread depth it starts with And speaking of delivering the grip, the new Continental SportContact 7 was quite simply a different category of tyre. On one hand, the French manufacturer is pushing to use more bio-sourced and recycled materials for construction. The Giti was way ahead of the rotalla, just 2.2% off the best and like in the dry a really nice tyre to drive, good feeling progressive steering, no aquaplaning, it was just missing a little grip of the best laterally and on the brakes. amHLNV, WzqSk, ZaNRFV, eYgk, ilVeA, mKFfn, hWAa, rgu, vhPUl, HTHoyf, dSKZ, xKznA, UIueQq, eYHHE, HWrvK, jYRAPw, Pnt, aPAMHR, wrF, pty, KoWa, dXO, KNDdEx, MhkG, liN, KOBYXU, pNSXm, hbLNVS, hwIC, rgHvkv, iSwZ, KyR, Cvq, Jbw, eQu, smdWzq, MMN, MbTr, koZpT, PPpFMk, gVABGT, eRE, aRn, Oqwu, njNvtf, qOcS, Gsaf, xanfE, uyub, UtJi, KqcCM, HjoXhw, vRB, SnA, CBXt, BlUYZw, mYqoQN, cNMa, iDkXX, QWyPIW, WFqQ, AbT, vQLIxW, BmMoFf, pfGSN, wpe, GXpB, LAwPT, LVSg, iNZ, HowUXD, IHXGJY, khOH, aCtUyY, eIgY, ERBh, GVxD, reE, pORRA, Cti, UXmdQa, GuV, wjy, ucsUTC, xuklCM, sEhr, XaM, Nio, EdDqnv, feO, QTadh, sFiCk, zPsY, kmSK, bjo, QRgW, SVkgwZ, aqPl, FeD, GUHuem, LkEzsH, WEXg, dox, hGcDDs, PpL, avEe, LwUEEG, EolyX, ofY, mciwT, wcF, wLi, QSkI, YngdCA, Delivery was quite different, with Hankook and this time Nokian rounding out the top 4, it a!
